Thank you

Diana Whalen Dear Constituents,

It is a privilege and honour to be re-elected as your MLA in Halifax Clayton Park. It has been an busy campaign and I have enjoyed the opportunity to talk to many of you on the doorsteps at your homes, condominiums and apartments.

I am deeply humbled by the support you have shown by offering me a second term to be your voice for Clayton Park at the Legislature. Thank you. Together I know that we can work to build an even better, stronger community. I commit that I will remain open and accessible to you.

I owe a special thank you to the many volunteers who offered themselves and their skills to my campaign. Our democracy is built on the volunteers who power each party in the elections and between elections. I was extremely fortunate to have a wonderful team of volunteers who helped me in so many ways. To all of you, I offer my sincere thanks.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank my husband Michael and our children Caroline and Stewart for once again supporting me in my decision to run for re-election. Public life takes a lot of time and commitment and my family has been 100% supportive at each step of the way.

The people of Nova Scotia have chosen another minority government. The Liberal caucus, of which I am a member, will hold the balance of power in this government and will be called upon to play a major role in how the government proceeds.

My office above Lawtons in the Park West Centre has returned to normal hours and we are preparing to take up the issues that we heard on the doorstep. The two issues that came up most frequently are the planned recreation center and the need to create an urban wilderness park in the Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes area.

I invite you to contact me whenever you have a question, concern or problem we may be able to assist you with. Also, I will be hosting community BBQs this summer so watch for their location and date.

Once again, thank you for the confidence that you have placed in me. I promise to continue to work hard and to speak out on the issues that matter in Clayton Park and in HRM.

Sincerely,
Diana

Two important new projects are gaining momentum in our area.

First is the replacement of Northcliffe Pool with a new Recreation Centre. To become a reality, this project will require fundraising in the community. Other recreation facilities in the Province have had to raise a share of the cost for new facilities and we will have to do the same.

The second project is the protection of the Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes Crown Lands. These fantastic lakes are nestled just minutes from Bayers Lake Business Park and are a beautiful natural area. Members of the local Trails Association and the Halifax Field Naturalists are joining the fight to get the government to protect this area. We are looking for people who are interested in learning more about the area and helping us to secure its future as protected green space. Let me know, if you are interested in helping.
